Plan Commission Approves Dupont Commons Senior Living and Residential Project

The Oaks Board met with Matt Canterbury, Vice President of Homestead Development on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 via zoom. Two residents also attended the meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss our concerns regarding the proposed Dupont Commons Senior Living and Multi-family Apartment project. We have attached the notes from this meeting.

There are links in the notes to the Homestead Companies’ website which show their current senior living facilities and multi-family apartments. This company is not just a builder. They build and then manage their facilities.

To access the document shared at the meeting (and named in the notes), go to the The Oaks HOA website at https://theoakshoa.org/the-oaks-news/homestead-development/homestead-development-prior-to-approval/

The Allen County Plan Commission had a public meeting on Thursday, April 22 to vote on the various projects, this one included. This meeting was public but did not allow for public comment. They reviewed the revised plans and voted to approve the waiver requests made by Homestead.

You can view the meeting at https://www.facebook.com/AllenCounty/videos/2473927792751283/?so=channel_tab&rv=all_videos_card We believe you have to be logged into Facebook to view. Fast forward to minute 31:45 to listen to their discussion, comments, and vote on the Dupont Commons project.)

At the meeting, someone mentioned that there had been an original project for a big box store on this property but it must have fallen through to allow this one to happen. If this residential project had not been approved, there is a big possibility a big box store would be placed here. Also, since the commercial property allows for 40′ tall business buildings, we could get a commercial building, such as a hotel, built on this property without any waiver request being required.

We would like to thank the residents who attended the hearing and meeting with the developer to voice their concerns.

Sincerely,
The Oaks Board of Directors
